Trouble With Taxes

My Detailed Case Evaluation Service is aimed at helping taxpayers to make sense of their problem and to find out what steps they need to take to fix it. You tell me about your situation and I will tell you what procedures you need to follow and what issues you need to focus on to get it fixed. I will usually cover this in general terms as part of my free consultation service but the Detailed Evaluation is intended to give you a personalized guide as to what steps you should take if you are representing yourself. This service can also be used to obtain a legal opinion on the validity of CRA’s claims and what, in my opinion, your chances of success are.

Typically, once you decide you would like to use my case evaluation services, I will need to review your correspondence from the CRA. I will also need to speak to you so I can fully understand your situation and ask some further questions. I do not usually speak to the CRA at this stage as most clients want to have my involvement and evaluation remain confidential. Once I have all the necessary information, I will provide you with a written opinion on your situation and what your options are in trying to resolve the problem.

This service is extremely useful for those taxpayers who are unsure why a particular issue has arisen and to help get a perspective on the potential time and costs involved in making a submission to the CRA. In addition, all correspondence is subject to solicitor-client privilege and held in the strictest confidence.

The charge for the document evaluation service is $500 plus HST and I aim to have all evaluations returned within 7 days. I also offer a premium 24 hour service if necessary and you can contact me for further details and pricing.

An Example of How Case Evaluations work:

You have received a letter indicating that your business expenses and charitable donations made in 2005 have been reviewed by the CRA and they are proposing to disallow all amounts claimed. The letter invites you to make representations to the CRA within 30 days. You are not sure what to say to the CRA or what this could mean for you and decide to use my Case Evaluation Service.

I will ask you to send me a copy of the CRA letter to review and after payment of the evaluation fee, I will speak to you about what expenses and donations you made, what kind of supporting documents you have and any other relevant details. After I have gathered enough information, I will prepare a letter to you confirming what you have told me and explaining what the CRA are likely to do next. I will outline your options and the potential consequences of each route. I will provide details of what procedures you need to follow for the particular routes and finally, which I believe is the best route for you based on the information you have provided.

Step 1: Contact me to tell me about your situation
Step 2: Send me your material and information
Step 3: Receive a detailed opinion letter outlining your next steps
