Generally, I will need to see all your supporting documentation and speak with you so I have all the relevant facts to allow me to ensure everything is accurate and you receive proper assistance.
My drafting services are also useful for accountants or other professionals who have all of the information for the case but would feel more comfortable having a lawyer draft and check the actual submission to the CRA. Instead of the taxpayer having to pay for a lawyer to represent them in addition to the accountant’s services, my services can just be engaged for the drafting portion of the file.
Another area where my drafting skills can be extremely useful is in Taxpayer Relief Applications. Through my experience with the relief application process, I know the key terms and factors that the CRA are looking for in their decision to grant relief. Document Review
If you have already constructed your document but would like legal advice as to the potential consequences of the contents or just want someone to check it over, I can do this for you. I will also be able to highlight any information you are providing to the CRA that may be unnecessary or outside of their request and could potentially raise further issues for you.
My review services also include looking at settlement offers or waivers and advising on any hidden consequences that may arise from signing such documents. It is always important to get independent legal advice before signing any kind of agreement with the CRA as there can be legal consequences you may not have considered or be aware of. This can include reviewing questionnaires that the CRA have sent to you. In certain situations there are questions that you are under no obligation to answer and where the questions relate to other individuals or clients, you may in fact be prohibited from answering under privacy laws.
